Land in Kaashidhoo Allocated to this Ministry to Ensure Food Security

An agreement has been signed to allocate 1 hectare of land from K. Kaashidhoo to the Ministry of Agriculture and Animal Welfare to enhance food security.
The handover ceremony took place today in Kaashidhoo, withMinister Dr. Mariyam Mariya, , signing on behalf of the Ministry of Agriculture, and the President of the Kaashidhoo Council Mohamed Aamir, signing on behalf of the island council.
The main objectives of this food security initiative are:
- To increase domestic food production using climate-friendly and sustainable technologies
- To reduce dependency on imported food by establishing robust food systems at the island level
- To enhance economic participation through training, employment, and business opportunities in the agricultural sector
- To improve food security by facilitating access to affordable, healthy, and fresh food
- To provide measurable economic, social, and food security benefits to the island community, including:Training programs targeting Kaashidhoo's youth, women, and farmers, focusing on sustainable agriculture, business skills, and technology utilizationEstablishment of community-oriented cooperatives or management authorities
- Training programs targeting Kaashidhoo's youth, women, and farmers, focusing on sustainable agriculture, business skills, and technology utilization
- Establishment of community-oriented cooperatives or management authorities
- Conducting Campaigns to Raise Awareness on Food Safety and Sustainable Habits
The President has highlighted in his speech that the Food Security Project, which the government has initiated as a priority to enhance food security in the Maldives, will bring significant economic benefits to the country through the allocation of land in various regions across the Maldives. The President also noted that this project, which is being launched in Kaashidhoo, will benefit Kaashidhoo's economy as well.
The current government has been undertaking numerous efforts to advance the agricultural sector.
