With the Minister's appeal, 60 palm trees were planted on 3 islands

On the occasion of the Maldives' 60th Independence Day, during a ceremony held to plant 60 palm trees in Hulhumalé, Minister Dr. Mariyam Mariya appealed for the planting of palm trees on all islands of the Maldives. This appeal has been sent to the councils of all islands in the Maldives.

Consequently, the planting of palm trees has begun on various islands across the Maldives. As such, 60 palm trees have been planted in L. Fonadhoo, GDh. Madaveli, and K. Kaashidhoo.

Planting and cultivating palm trees is crucial to overcome the coconut shortage that the Maldives is facing. Moreover, planting palm trees is very important to increase productivity in the Maldives by utilizing the parts of the Maldivian palm tree and the food products derived from it.
